What kinds of data can I read or publish to Garmin Connect?

You can read the following data types from Garmin Connect:

  • Activity
  • Body Composition
  • Blood Pressure
  • Oxygen
  • Sleep

You cannot publish any data to this service at this time.

What is the difference between Garmin Connect and Garmin Connect [China]?

Garmin Connect is federated and has its services both behind https://connect.garmin.com/ and https://connect.garmin.cn/. If you access your data via the https://connect.garmin.cn/ endpoint, please use the [China] denoted Garmin Connect sources; otherwise, you should use the default.

What are the changes to the Garmin Connect features in July 2021?

This is a work in progress, however, Garmin has greatly simplified their interfaces, so now we just have one service for all of your deep analytics and your wearable data.

In addition to this, FitnessSyncer Pro users can now request up-to 5 years of activity data and 2 years of health data in Historic Syncs.

The values are different in Garmin Connect vs. your system; why?

Garmin (and other services) do post-processing of the data they send us. Consequently, sometimes the durations and various metrics will not match precisely because of this.

FitnessSyncer does not have entries for some things in Garmin Connect; why?

We use Garmin’s Push API, which means that we receive it shortly after your Garmin device syncs with Garmin. Some of your activities may originate in other services such as Zwift or SufferFest, which due to contractual obligations, they do not send such activities to us. If your data originates from another party, we recommend using an alternative source for that data.

Nothing seems to happen when I click Sync on my Garmin Connect sources; why?

For Garmin Connect, we get immediately notified whenever you sync or add a new activity on their end, and thus, the sync button usually does not find anything.

Can I get data from Garmin Junior?

Due to the privacy agreements, this information is not available by default. You can, however, export the data via https://www.garmin.com/en-US/account/datamanagement/ and then import it into a standard Garmin Connect account where we can acquire the data from it or import it directly into FitnessSyncer via CSV.

There is no data in my Garmin Connect; why? Why am I not receiving new data? Why are there only 60 days of history?

Garmin Connect only starts collecting data from the moment you begin using FitnessSyncer. For Garmin Connect and Garmin Connect (China), Pro users can request historic syncs for up-to 5 years of data.

Note: Because of how we integrate with Garmin Connect, we do not recommend the use of filters directly on these source connections.

From your Garmin account, ensure that FitnessSyncer has access to all of your data; to check:

  • Go to https://connect.garmin.com and login
  • Once in, click on your user in the upper right corner and select Account Settings
  • From the options, select Account Information
  • For each of the FitnessSyncer entries, ensure that all of the options are enabled

After this, you may need to reauthenticate your sources; just edit one of them and change the authentication to Grant New Permissions and Apply to Other Sources and Destinations.

If you are still experiencing problems, please contact us.

Is there more data that I can get from Garmin Connect?

FitnessSyncer Pro users can use a historic sync to get up-to 2 years of health metrics or 5 years of activity files.

If you use the ANT stick and have .FIT files on your hard drive, you can use the FitnessSyncer Uploader to upload that data into your Notebook.

Otherwise, you can go to Garmin Connect and download a summary CSV:

  • Expand the navigation bar by selecting the arrow from the upper left corner of the screen if not already expanded.
  • Select Activities, then All Activities
  • Filter the activities you wish to export and then click the Export CSV button from the upper left corner
  • Once complete, you can import the CSV in FitnessSyncer Notebook.

Alternatively, you can request an export of all of your Garmin data via https://www.garmin.com/en-US/account/datamanagement/ and then upload those items into FitnessSyncer.

Sometimes my Garmin Connect sleep sent to other services is off or duplicated; why?

Garmin Connect samples the sleep and can send us a couple of updates of the sleep records before it is finalized, but they are sometimes indistinguishable between the completed and incomplete sleeps. Depending on when the sync occurs, it is possible that the sleep sent was incomplete.

The work around is usually to add a filter. In the Comment field of the Sleep item, it will contain ENHANCED_FINAL, and these are the ones you wish to send over; add a filter for Comment Contains ENHANCED_FINAL.

In some cases, this filter may not work. A slower but guaranteed-to-work filter is to use the Older Than Days filter set to 1 day on your Destination Tasks.

My Garmin Connect Strength Training (or other activities) do not contain calories, but they do on Garmin; how do I fix his?

Garmin Connect sends us the raw .FIT file, which some activities do not have calorie information.
